Internationally, Autonomous driving development is segmented in five different levels.
Level 0 is the vehicle on the road today.
The vehicle monitors the road and controls steering OR accelerator, brake to render Adaptive Cruise Control. The vehicle is kept at a safe distance from the vehicle or obstruction ahead
The vehicle monitors the road and controls steering, acceleration and brake, also known as STB
The vehicle monitors the environment, controls STB and can over take a vehicle in controlled or safe environment
Same as level 3, but the environment definition is broadened. Requires infrastructure and legislation. Allowed in geofenced, urban areas
No human involved, just define destination and GO! The vehicles will not have any ST & B
